Unit Overview

 

Week 1:

Introduction to pollution--What is pollution and how is it caused? 

Lessons are student-centered and include hands-on activities, such as labs, exercises, and class discussions. All subjects are taught individually but the content material is cross-discplinary.



 

Week 2:
​The impact of pollution on the community--
What are the effects of pollution on health, the environment, my community, and society?
Lessons continue to be hands-on and student-centered. Some subjects (P.E. & Biology; Social Studies & Spanish) are co-taught for several lessons this week. Students also begin working on their social service learning project: investigating a local problem with pollution using scientific inquiry.

Week 3:

During the final week, students come together for all classes to collaborate in creation of their public-service announcements. They will integrate lessons learned across several disciplines, including:

  2. Biology
  3. History
  4. Spanish​
  5. P.E.
